About the 8 Megapixel 4 Channel PoE NVR with 1 HDD Slot
Wiring is the reason to choose the P4 version over the plain four-channel recorder. Four built-in PoE ports mean each camera runs on a single network cable — no separate power adaptor at the camera end, no extra switch in the equipment box, and fewer joints to fail inside a ceiling. It handles four IP channels at up to 8MP using H.265 or H.264 high-profile compression, so cameras that do not support H.265 still work with it. The constraint is the port count: four is four, and anything beyond that needs an additional switch or the eight-port model.
Key benefits
- Four PoE ports let cameras take power and data from one cable each
- H.265 or H.264 high-profile compression keeps older IP cameras compatible with the recorder
- Pentaplex operation runs live view, recording, playback and backup at the same time
- 4K HDMI output shows 8MP footage at full detail on a compatible display
- Time, time-slice, event, tag and Smart Search cut down long playback sessions
- NAT and QR-code setup connect the Android or iOS app without lengthy configuration
Where it works well
- New four-camera install in a 5-marla house with fresh cabling
- Shop with cameras above the till and at the shutter
- Small office where a separate PoE switch is not wanted
- Rented premises where the cabling must stay simple and removable
- Gate, drive and front door cover on a compact plot

Frequently asked questions
Do I still need a PoE switch with this recorder?
Not for four cameras. The four PoE ports carry power and data to the cameras directly, which is the main advantage of this model over the standard four-channel unit. You only need a switch if a camera sits beyond a workable cable distance or if you later want to connect cameras that are not on the recorder's own ports.
How far can a camera be from the recorder?
Standard Ethernet cable distance limits apply on the PoE ports, so a camera at the far corner of a large plot may sit beyond a reliable run. In that case an intermediate PoE switch or an extender-capable switch solves it. Tell us the longest run on your site and we will confirm whether it needs an extra hop.
Will it work with cameras that only support H.264?
Yes. The recorder handles both H.265 and H.264 high-profile compression, so a mixed set of cameras is not a problem. H.265 streams will use less drive space, which is worth keeping in mind if you are choosing new cameras anyway.
Can multiple people view the system at the same time?
Yes, the recorder supports multiple users online simultaneously, with user authorization controlling what each account can see and change. That is useful when an owner wants full access while a manager gets live view only. Log viewing and device status monitoring are also available for checking who did what.
