About the 2 Megapixel License Plate Recognition Network Camera

Reading number plates is a different job from general surveillance, and an ordinary camera aimed at a gate rarely manages it. This one is purpose-built: 1920×1080 on a 1/2.8-inch CMOS, an onboard database holding 10,000 plates, capture rated for vehicles moving up to 70 kilometres per hour, and infrared reaching 100 metres. The resolution is deliberately modest because plate capture depends on shutter behaviour and glare control rather than megapixels. Positioning decides everything here, so the site survey matters more than the camera specification.

Key benefits

  • Onboard capacity for 10,000 plates supports gate lists without a separate server
  • Rated to capture plates from vehicles travelling at up to 70 kilometres per hour
  • Infrared reaching 100 metres covers long approach roads and unlit society gates
  • Minimum illumination of 0.0026 lux is far lower than the general-purpose cameras in this range
  • Highlight compensation helps handle the headlight glare that normally washes out a plate
  • Powered over 802.3af PoE, so one cable serves an awkward gate-mounted position

Where it works well

  • Main entry gate of a housing society in Lahore
  • Factory or warehouse gate logging every vehicle movement
  • Basement parking entry of a commercial plaza
  • Weighbridge or truck yard approach lane
  • Private school gate recording pick-up vehicles

Frequently asked questions

Will it read Pakistani number plates?

Plate recognition depends on the plate being standard, clean and adequately lit, and on the camera sitting within its intended capture geometry. Custom, decorative and damaged plates are common on Lahore roads, and no LPR camera handles every one of them. We would rather survey the gate and set expectations honestly than promise a read rate we cannot stand behind.

How should it be mounted?

LPR cameras are aimed along the direction of travel at a shallow angle, not square across the lane, and the distance is chosen so the plate fills enough of the frame. The 70 km/h figure assumes vehicles crossing the capture zone within that geometry, so a society gate where cars slow to a stop is a comfortable case. Send photos or a short video of your gate on WhatsApp and we will advise the mounting point.

Do I still need a normal camera at the same gate?

Usually yes. An LPR camera's exposure is tuned to hold plate detail against headlights, which typically leaves faces and the surrounding scene dark. Pairing it with one of the dual-light bullets or domes for the general view of the same gate is the standard arrangement.

Can it open a barrier automatically?

It stores up to 10,000 plates on the camera and supports alarm triggers, which is the basis for whitelist-driven access. Whether it drives your particular barrier depends on that barrier's controller and its interface. Tell us the barrier make and model and we will check what integration is possible before you order anything.

Does it need mains power at the gate?

No. The listed power supply is PoE to IEEE 802.3af, so a single network cable from a PoE switch handles it, which helps at gates where a mains spur is awkward to run. Standard network cable distance limits still apply, so a long gate run may need a switch or extender partway along.
