About the 3 Megapixel Night Fighter Network Bullet Camera

Colour at night changes what a recording is worth — a black-and-white infrared clip tells you someone was there, while a colour one tells you he wore a red shirt and arrived on a white bike. The Night Fighter bullet is built for that: a 1/2.8-inch sensor rated to 0.0005 lux, 2304 × 1296 recording, and a 30-metre full-colour viewing range. It is specified for colour night viewing rather than infrared, so it wants some ambient light — a street lamp, a porch bulb, a shop sign — to work at its best. On a completely unlit back lane, plan lighting alongside the camera.

Will it show colour on a completely dark lane?

This model is specified for full-colour night viewing rather than infrared, and its 0.0005 lux rating tells you it needs very little light — but not none. A street lamp, a shop sign or a porch bulb is usually enough. On a lane with no light at all, budget for a lamp along with the camera.

Why pay more than a normal infrared camera?

Infrared gives a black-and-white record: you can see that a person or vehicle was present. Colour gives you shirt colour, bike colour, the pattern on the clothes — the details that help identify someone afterwards. If the camera's job is identification rather than detection, that is the whole argument.

Can I run it from a 12V adaptor?

The listed power supply for this model is PoE to IEEE802.3af, so it expects a PoE switch, an injector or a PoE-capable NVR. That is usually simpler in any case, since one network cable carries both power and video. Confirm your recorder on WhatsApp and we will tell you what else is needed.
