If it records 5MP, why is the display output 1080P?

The output feeds your monitor and it is rated at 1080P, while the recording on disk stays at the camera's 5MP. In practice you watch a 1080P live wall, then zoom into saved footage to read a plate or a face. If a 4K monitor wall is the requirement, the 8MP model with 4K HDMI output is the one to look at.

Will my existing 1080P cameras still work on it?

Yes. The analog channels accept TVI, AHD and CVI cameras and are backward compatible with lower resolutions, so 1080P and 5MP cameras can run together. Only the 5MP cameras will produce 5MP recordings.

How much more storage does 5MP need compared with 2MP?
