Do I need to fill all four drive bays?

No, you can start with fewer drives and add more as retention needs grow. The value of four bays on a thirty-two-channel site is that you are not forced into one very large drive at the outset. We will work out a sensible starting configuration with you.

What does switching analog channels to IP actually mean?

Sixteen of the analog inputs can be reassigned as IP channels in the settings. On a site being modernised in phases, that lets old coaxial cameras keep running in one section while new network cameras come online in another, without buying a second recorder.

Why does it play back sixteen channels when it records thirty-two?

Simultaneous playback is limited to sixteen channels, which is a processing limit rather than a recording limit. All thirty-two channels are still recorded, and you choose which sixteen to review together. Most investigations come down to a handful of relevant cameras anyway.

Is this too much for a large house?
