What makes a DHA job different
DHA plots are deep, the boundary walls are high, and the distance from the front gate to the porch on a kanal house is longer than most people expect. A four-camera package that covers a small street house properly will leave the side alleys, the servant entrance and the back gate dark here.
We plan CCTV installation in DHA Lahore from the boundary inwards: gate and driveway first, then both side walls, then roof stair and rear access, then the internal points the family actually wants to see. In DHA, cable length decides the design
Ethernet over copper is dependable to roughly 100 metres. On a 1 kanal or 2 kanal DHA plot, the run from the gate pillar back to the recorder position regularly gets close to that figure, and on a corner plot with a rear gate it can go past it.
The answer is not a longer roll of cable. It is a small PoE switch or extender in a weatherproof box near the gate, or a second distribution point so that no single run carries the full distance. We mark that box position on the survey, before anyone drills a hole.
If the house is already plastered and painted, the honest options are surface casing on the outside walls, a roof-level route dropping down to selected points, or a mix of both. You see the route and agree it in advance rather than finding out halfway through the day.
Inside your boundary wall, and outside it
Work inside your own plot is routine. Anything on shared DHA property is a different conversation, and it is worth having it before the equipment arrives.
- Inside the plot: no approval needed — Boundary walls, gate pillars, roof parapet, porch and driveway are your own property, so mounting and cabling there is a normal private job.
- Green belts, parks and footpaths: DHA scope — Anything fixed to a park railing, a green belt pole or a footpath structure sits on DHA land and needs DHA’s written go-ahead first.
- Cameras covering a DHA lane — Where residents want the mouth of a lane covered, the workable version usually mounts on one resident’s own wall or gate pillar looking out, rather than on DHA property, with the scope and the footage custodian agreed in writing first.
- Utility poles are not yours — Street-light and distribution poles belong to the utility and the local authority. Clipping a camera to one is common practice, which is not the same as being permitted.
- Neighbour privacy — Overlooking a neighbour’s courtyard is one of the most common causes of local complaints about a new system. We aim tight to your own frontage and apply privacy masking as standard.
Power, backup and load shedding in DHA homes
Get the rack onto the backed-up side
Many DHA houses already run a hybrid inverter and battery bank. The real question at survey is whether the recorder circuit sits on the backed-up side of the distribution board or the raw grid side.
The router is part of the CCTV system
Recording carries on when the ONU and router lose power, but your mobile view and alerts stop. Both belong on backup along with the PoE switch.
Surge protection and earthing
Long external runs to a gate or a rooftop are exposed to fluctuation and lightning. Protection and proper earthing cost far less than replacing a switch and four cameras.
Plots with no meter
Newer phases have plots still waiting on construction. A solar 4G camera on the boundary wall records without a cable run or an electricity connection.

Conduit where walls are open, casing on a route you have already agreed where they are finished, then mounting, cabling, configuration and storage sized to the recording days you asked for.
5. Handover
Mobile app set up for each family member, a walk through the live view and playback, and a short demonstration of how to export a clip without disturbing the timeline.

Do I need DHA’s permission to install CCTV cameras?
For cameras mounted inside your own boundary wall, normally not. For anything on a green belt, a park railing, a shared pole or a phase entry gate, you need DHA’s written go-ahead because that is their property, not yours.
How many cameras does a 1 kanal house in DHA need?
Eight to twelve is the usual starting scope, covering the gate and driveway, both side walls, the back gate or servant entrance, the roof stair and the main entrance. The final count depends on wall heights, plot shape and whether the plot backs onto a green belt.
Can you secure an empty DHA plot with no electricity connection?
Yes. One or two solar 4G cameras on the boundary wall or on a pole inside the plot will record without any cabling or meter, which suits plots where construction has stopped and restarted.
Will my cameras keep recording during load shedding?
They will if the recorder, the PoE switch and the router are on a backed-up circuit. Where an inverter is already installed, the job is usually moving the right circuit onto the backed-up side rather than adding new equipment.
Should I install CCTV while my house is still under construction?
Laying conduit during grey structure is one of the biggest cost savers on a new build, because it removes the surface casing work later. We coordinate with your builder and leave draw wires at the marked positions.
Can you read number plates at my gate?
Plate capture needs a camera dedicated to that job, mounted at a controlled angle with usable light, not a general overview camera. We can design for it and tell you honestly what it will and will not read at night.
