A cooperative society, not a standard housing scheme
The core of Model Town is administered by its cooperative society, laid out on garden-city lines with a circular road plan, its own administration and its own entrances.
Inside your boundary wall, a CCTV installation is a private job. On society roads, green belts, entry barriers or shared poles, the society office is the correct door to knock on, and block-level camera projects are usually a committee conversation rather than an individual one.
Old bungalows, deep lawns and mature trees
The Model Town core is built largely around big houses on 1, 2 and 4 kanal plots, with mature trees, deep lawns and long driveways. Two things follow from that, and both catch people out.
First, trees are a common cause of a camera that worked in March and shows a wall of leaves in July. We place cameras with the summer canopy in mind and note which branches will need pruning, rather than mounting on a clear winter sightline and hoping.
Second, a lawn that runs forty or fifty feet from the porch to the boundary is beyond what a standard infrared camera lights usefully. That is where full-colour or dual-light models earn their place, because a dark lawn at the edge of the IR range gives you movement without detail.
Many of these houses are also plastered, painted and finished to a standard where visible trunking is not acceptable. We plan discreet routes, use conduit along parapets and skirting lines, and show you the route before we start.

What we check on a Model Town survey
- Cable distance from gate to recorder — On a 2 or 4 kanal plot the gate run can pass the practical limit for a single Ethernet run, so we plan a switch near the gate rather than stretching cable.
- Tree lines and seasonal growth — We photograph the intended view and flag which branches will block it once the canopy fills out.
- Servant quarters and rear gates — Older Model Town houses commonly have a separate rear access and outbuildings that a front-facing package ignores completely.

Power and continuity
Inverter or UPS, either is fine
Where a hybrid inverter and battery bank are already installed, the recorder, switch and router simply need to be on the backed-up side of the board.
Long external runs need protection
Runs to a gate pillar or roof across a large plot are exposed to surge and fluctuation, so protection and earthing are part of the scope, not an upsell.
Storage sized for real life

Smog season and dome bubbles
Lens covers haze over through the dry months, and a hazed bubble scatters the camera’s own infrared back into the image. An annual clean keeps the night view usable.

Frequently asked questions
Do you cover both the core blocks and the extension?
Yes. We work across the core blocks and the outer extension blocks. The two sit under different administrations, which affects permissions for anything mounted outside your own plot.
Do I need society permission to fit cameras?
Not for cameras mounted inside your own boundary wall. For anything on society roads, gates, green belts or shared poles, the society office is the body to approach first.
How many cameras does a 2 kanal Model Town house need?
Usually twelve to twenty-four on a 16 or 32 channel recorder, because the design is perimeter-led. Gate, driveway, all boundary walls, rear gate, outbuildings, roof stair and the main entrance are the usual list.
Will trees block my cameras?
They will if positions are chosen in winter without allowing for summer growth. We photograph the intended view during the survey and tell you which branches will need trimming to keep the shot.
