About the 2 Megapixel IR FHD Dome Camera

Rated IP65 rather than IP67, this dome is best read as an indoor and semi-covered camera: under a soffit, along a corridor, above a counter, rather than bolted to an open wall in the rain. It records 1920 × 1080 from a 1/2.9-inch sensor, uses infrared night view rated at 20 metres, and has no microphone. The dome shape is harder to grab and gives away less about where the lens is pointed, which is useful in a busy shop. For a fully exposed outdoor position the bullet version of this model carries the higher IP66 rating.

Frequently asked questions

Can this dome be fitted outdoors?

It carries an IP65 rating, which is intended for dust and splashing rather than sustained direct exposure. Under a soffit, a porch ceiling or a covered walkway is fine. For an open wall taking full sun and rain, we would put the IP66 bullet version there instead.

How does it compare with the bullet model on the same specification?

Both give 1080p and a 20-metre infrared night view. The difference is the housing: the dome is discreet and better suited to ceilings, while the bullet is easier to aim, more visible as a deterrent, and carries the higher IP66 weather rating. Position usually decides it rather than picture quality.

Does it capture sound?

No microphone is fitted to this model, so it is video only. If a particular position needs audio, we would specify one of the AU models there and leave the rest of the system on this camera.

What else do I need besides the cameras?

A recorder with enough channels, a hard disk sized for how long you want to keep footage, coaxial cable to each position, and a DC12V supply. We usually price these together so nothing is missed on the day of installation.
