About the 5 Megapixel Network Bullet Camera

Going to 5 MP is mostly about how much you can crop later. At 2880 × 1620 on a 1/2.7-inch sensor, one bullet can cover a wider slice of a yard or shop floor and still leave usable detail when you zoom into the recording. Night coverage is 30 metres of infrared, the housing is IP67, and power can be DC12V or PoE. The cost is storage: higher resolution fills an NVR hard disk faster than 2 MP does at the same settings, so size the recorder and the disk for it rather than adding cameras first and worrying later.

Frequently asked questions

Does 5 MP need more storage?

Yes. At the same frame rate and settings, 2880 × 1620 writes more data than 1080p or 4 MP, so the disk fills faster and older footage is overwritten sooner. Decide how many days of recording you want to keep first, then size the disk. We can work that out with you on WhatsApp.

Will my existing NVR record 5 MP?

Only if the recorder supports that resolution per channel and has the bandwidth for it across all cameras. Many older units cap out lower and will simply record the camera at a reduced resolution. Send us the NVR model number and we will check it.

Is 5 MP automatically better at night?

No. More pixels on a similar sensor size means each pixel collects less light, so night performance is set by the sensor and lens rather than the megapixel figure. This model is rated at 0.007 lux — compare that directly with any other model you are considering.

How far can the camera be from the recorder?

Network cable runs have practical length limits, and the longer the run the more it depends on cable quality and whether a switch sits in between. On a large plot we normally place a switch partway rather than pulling one long run. Share the distances on WhatsApp and we will plan the route.
