Eight megapixels over coaxial cable is the top of this analog range: 3840 × 2160 from a 1/2.5-inch sensor, infrared night view rated at 30 metres, an IP67 housing and no microphone. It suits the one or two positions on a site where you may later need to enlarge part of the frame, such as a main gate, a till or a loading bay, rather than every camera on the job. Two practical points before you commit: the recorder must accept 8 MP analog input, and a 4K signal is less forgiving of poor or over-long cable than 1080p is.

Do I need a new recorder for an 8 MP camera?

Almost certainly, unless your existing unit is already specified for 8 MP analog input. A 5 MP or 1080p recorder will display the camera but will store it at its own lower resolution. Send us the recorder model on WhatsApp and we will confirm before you spend on the camera.

Should every camera on the site be 8 MP?

Usually not, and we would not recommend it. Resolution costs storage on every channel, every hour of the day. The common approach is 8 MP at the two or three positions where identification really matters, and 2 MP or 5 MP elsewhere for general coverage.

Does cable quality matter more at this resolution?

Yes. A 4K analog signal is more sensitive to thin copper, poor joints and very long runs than 1080p is, and the symptoms are a soft picture or one that drops out intermittently. We survey the run length before putting an 8 MP camera on an existing cable.
