About the Guardian Apex 360° - 3MP Smart WiFi Outdoor PT Camera

For a house or shop where Wi-Fi already reaches the mounting point, this outdoor pan-tilt camera avoids both cable work and mobile data charges. It records 2304×1296 through a 4mm F2.6 lens covering 85 degrees horizontally, and the head turns 336 degrees horizontally and 108 degrees vertically. Human tracking, a sound-and-light alarm and two-way audio through a 2W speaker make it an interactive camera rather than a passive recorder. Its limits are the ones every Wi-Fi camera has: signal quality at the mounting point, and night illumination reaching about 10 metres.

Will my Wi-Fi actually reach the camera?

It uses 2.4GHz Wi-Fi with an external 3dBi antenna, which travels through walls better than 5GHz does. Even so, a single router at the far end of a double-storey house often cannot hold a stable outdoor link. Test with a phone at the exact mounting spot, and budget for a mesh node or access point if the signal is weak there.

Does it follow a person automatically?

It supports smart human tracking with adjustable sensitivity, so the head moves to keep a detected person in frame. Remember that while tracking pulls the lens away, whatever was in the original view is not being recorded during that period. Set a sensible home position so it returns to the scene that matters most.

Is 10 metres of night vision enough?

For a courtyard, porch or shop front, generally yes. For a long driveway or a full boundary wall, no: the wired dual-light bullets in the Pollo range are specified at 30 metres and are the right tool at that distance. Match the illumination range to the distance at which you actually need to recognise someone.

What happens during load-shedding?

No internal battery appears in this model's specification, so it stops when its power supply stops, and the router going down also breaks remote viewing. A small UPS covering the router and the camera adapter carries it through short cuts. Where power is unreliable altogether, the solar and 4G models in the Guardian range are the better answer.
