Retail CCTV
CCTV Cameras for Shops and Retail Counters in Lahore
Till coverage that actually settles a dispute, face capture at the door, storeroom and shutter protection. Supplied and installed for retail units across Lahore markets.

What Retail Cameras Are Really For
Ask any shopkeeper in Liberty, Main Market, Ghalib Market or a Johar Town block road what their cameras have been used for, and it is rarely a dramatic robbery. It is a note that was or was not handed over, an item that walked out during a busy hour, a staff cash discrepancy at closing, and occasionally a snatching outside the door.
All of those are close-range, fast-moving events at the counter and the entrance. That is why a retail system is decided by camera angle far more than by camera count. Two well-placed cameras beat six placed in the ceiling corners because they were easy to cable.
Cameras, recorders and accessories are Contact for Price. Send a photo of your counter and your shop front to WhatsApp on WhatsApp and we will tell you what the space actually needs.
Counter Coverage That Survives a Dispute
The counter is the single most important angle in a retail unit, and the most commonly got wrong.
Face across the counter
Mount a camera in front of and slightly above the counter, looking back towards the customer. This is the shot that identifies a person and shows what was handed over.
The drawer and the hands
A second, tighter camera over the till area covering the cash drawer and the staff member’s hands settles internal discrepancies without accusing anyone.
Not directly overhead
A dome fixed straight above the till gives you the top of heads and a partial view of the counter surface. It looks tidy and proves very little.
Watch the backlight
A camera aimed at the counter with a glass shop front behind it will silhouette everyone during the day. Either move the angle or specify a camera with strong backlight handling.
Entrance at head height
One camera facing the door at roughly head height gives you a clean face of everyone who walks in, which is worth more than a wide corner shot of the whole shop.
Aisle and display run
Cover the high-value display run along its length rather than across it, so shelves do not hide the action.
Typical Retail Scope
Starting scope only, confirmed on survey. Frontage width, ceiling height and the number of separate rooms move these numbers.
| Premises type | Typical cameras | Recorder | Key positions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small retail unit or general store | 2 to 4 | 4ch | Counter face, entrance, aisle, storeroom |
| Larger retail unit with display floor | 6 to 10 | 8ch | Counter face, till drawer, entrance, two display runs, fitting or service area, store, back door |
| Showroom or branded outlet | 8 to 16 | 16ch | Entrance, till points, each display zone, stock room, staff entry, frontage and parking |
| Unit inside a plaza floor | 4 to 8 | 8ch | Your own door and interior only. Lift lobby, staircase and basement are building management scope. |
After Closing: Shutter, Light and Deterrence
Once the shutter is down, the risk changes from disputes to forced entry, and so does the camera requirement. An external camera covering the shutter and the frontage should be able to identify a person in whatever light the street offers, which in many Lahore markets is not much.
Dual-light cameras handle this well by running infrared normally and switching to white light when movement is detected. Active deterrence models add a strobe and a siren, which makes an intruder aware they have been seen. It is worth saying plainly: a camera and a siren discourage opportunists, they do not make premises immune, and nobody should sell you a system on that promise.
Where a unit has no external power point for a front camera or the frontage is far from the recorder, a solar and 4G camera can cover the shutter independently, which also suits an under-construction unit or a shop being fitted out.
Local Context Worth Knowing
Two verified points that shopkeepers ask us about, kept accurate rather than exaggerated.
Getting a Usable Clip After an Incident
The most frustrating call we take is from a shopkeeper whose system recorded everything and still could not produce anything useful.
- Set the recorder clock correctly — A wrong date or time is the most common reason footage is questioned. We set it at handover and check it again at every service visit.
- Know your retention window — If your recorder holds around two weeks, an incident reported after three weeks is already gone. Decide the days you need and size the disk for it.
- Export, do not delete — Copy the clip to a USB drive from playback. Never let anyone format or overwrite the recorder to make room while an issue is open.
- Export a window, not a moment — Take a few minutes before and after the event, from every relevant camera, not just the ten seconds that matter to you.
- Keep the original file — A phone video of the monitor is far weaker than the exported file. Save the original export somewhere safe as well as sharing it.
- Protect access to the recorder — Keep it locked away and keep the password off the shop counter. Anyone who can reach it can erase it.
Power, Outages and the Missing Half Hour
Retail units in Lahore see both scheduled and unscheduled outages, and incidents have a habit of happening when the lights go. If the recorder is not on backup, the outage window is precisely the footage you will be asked for and precisely the footage you will not have.
For a small unit, a compact UPS carrying the recorder, the switch and the internet router is inexpensive relative to the value of that window. Where the shop already runs an inverter or a generator, the job is simply moving the recorder socket onto the backed-up side and adding surge protection, since generator changeover and voltage fluctuation are hard on recorder power supplies.
Owners with more than one shop usually want all branches in one app view. That is straightforward once each site has a stable connection, and we cover it in detail on our remote monitoring page.

Frequently asked questions
How many cameras does a small retail unit need?
Two to four usually covers it: one facing the customer across the counter, one at the entrance, one down the aisle or display run, and one in the storeroom. A 4ch recorder is normally enough at that size.
Which camera position is best for the cash counter?
In front of and slightly above the counter, aimed back towards the customer, so you capture the face and what changes hands. A dome directly overhead is the most common mistake because it mainly shows the tops of heads.
Is CCTV compulsory for shops in Lahore?
We have not found a published Lahore-wide legal requirement for private shops to install cameras. A July 2026 directive to shopkeepers and malls was issued by police in Faisalabad district, not Lahore, and some markets set their own expectations locally, so check with your trader association.
Can my cameras be linked to the Safe City system?
Punjab Safe Cities runs a large public camera network in Lahore, but we have not found a published scheme or SOP allowing private shops to register their cameras into it.
Will cameras stop shoplifting completely?
No. Cameras deter casual attempts, help you identify who was present and settle disputes with evidence, but no system prevents every incident and we will not tell you otherwise.
Can I watch my shop from home on my phone?
Yes, once the shop has a working internet connection. Keep the router on backup power along with the recorder, otherwise the app goes offline during an outage while the recorder keeps recording.
I rent my unit. Should the system be in my name or the building’s?
Keep your own recorder for your own unit and agree in writing with the building management who covers the shared lobby, stairs and parking. At lease end it is much cleaner if your cameras and your footage are clearly yours.
How much does a shop CCTV package cost?
We quote per premises because frontage, ceiling height, cable route and storage days all change the total. Message us on WhatsApp with a photo and you will get a proper figure instead of a generic package price.
