About the 5 Megapixel IR FHD Dome Camera

Corridors, stairwells and reception areas that go dark overnight are what this dome is built for. It records 2560 × 1936 and uses infrared for a rated 20 metres of night view, in an IP67 housing, with no microphone fitted. Indoors that 20 metres is usually more than enough, whereas the same figure would be limiting across an open plot. Domes sit tight to the ceiling, which keeps them out of easy reach in a public lobby; just keep the housing clear of an adjacent wall, or the infrared bounces off it and lifts the exposure.

Frequently asked questions

Why does this model not have a microphone?

It is a video-only variant, which some buyers prefer in shared buildings where recording conversation raises questions with tenants or staff. If you do need audio at one position, an AU model can be fitted there and used on the same recorder.

Will it see in a basement with no light at all?

Yes, within its rated range. The infrared provides its own illumination up to 20 metres, which covers most basement corridors and parking approaches. In a very large basement we would use several units rather than expect one to reach across it.

5 MP or 2 MP for a corridor?

A corridor is a long, narrow scene, and the far end is where resolution starts to matter. If you want to recognise someone entering at the other end rather than just see movement, 5 MP is worth the extra storage. For a short landing, the 2 MP dome is usually adequate.
