About the Face Smart - Visible Light Indoor Facial & Palm Recognition

Face Smart is the entry point into Pollo's visible-light recognition range, and it earns that position on the 5-inch IPS touch screen and the spread of credentials it accepts. A binocular 1 MP camera handles face detection in roughly 20 ms and carries live detection, while the same terminal will also read a palm, a fingerprint, a card or a PIN. Read the capacities carefully though: the 10,000 figure is the user, card and fingerprint ceiling, whereas faces cap at 6,000 and palms at 3,000. It is an indoor terminal and needs a sheltered mounting position.

Frequently asked questions

Does 10,000 users mean 10,000 faces?

No, and this is the single most misread figure on the datasheet. The device supports 10,000 users, 10,000 fingerprint templates and 10,000 cards and passwords, but only 6,000 face templates and 3,000 palms. If every employee must enrol by face, count your headcount against 6,000, not 10,000.

How well does it recognise faces in low light?

This is a visible-light terminal, not an infrared or thermal one, so it relies on a nighttime fill light and a photosensitive sensor to cope when the room darkens. That is adequate for a lobby or corridor with normal lighting that dims at night. A completely unlit doorway is not the right position for it.

Can it open a door lock or connect to our existing access system?

It supports Wiegand 26/34, RS485, serial port and external ID/IC card readers, which covers most standard access control panels. What it takes to drive your particular lock depends on whether you are using an electromagnetic lock, a drop bolt or a controller in between. Send us a photo of the current door hardware on WhatsApp and we will tell you what else is needed.

How close does a person need to stand?

Effective recognition distance is 0.5 to 2 metres, with live detection working best in the 0.5 to 1 metre band. In practice that means mounting it so an average adult stands roughly an arm's length away at chest-to-face height. Mounting height matters more than most people expect and we set it during installation.
