About the Palm Pro - Visible Light Indoor Facial & Palm Recognition

Palm Pro is named after the credential that makes it interesting on a factory or kitchen floor, where fingers are often wet, dusty or gloved. Palm vein reading is contactless, and the binocular 1 MP camera adds face recognition with live detection intended to reject printed photos and replayed video. Recognition is rated at 0.3 seconds or less in 1:N mode across a 0.5 to 2 metre range. The catch is capacity: 5,000 users and 5,000 faces, but only 1,000 palm vein enrolments, so palm realistically covers a subset of staff rather than everyone.

Why choose palm vein over a fingerprint reader?

Fingerprint readers struggle with hands that are wet, oily, dusty, cracked or gloved, which describes a lot of industrial and food-handling work. Palm vein reading is contactless and does not depend on the surface condition of the skin. The limitation here is capacity: only 1,000 palm enrolments, so it is best deployed to the departments that actually need it.

How fast is it in practice?

The rated figure is 0.3 seconds or less for 1:N recognition, with an effective distance of 0.5 to 2 metres. At a shift change that speed is the difference between a queue that moves and one that backs up into the yard. Actual throughput also depends on how many people approach the reader at once and how it is mounted.

Can we collect attendance data without a network connection?

Yes. Alongside TCP/IP and built-in Wi-Fi it supports U-disk transfer plus USB host and slave, so records can be carried off on a flash drive. With 200,000 transaction logs on board there is plenty of headroom between collections. This is a common setup for site offices where connectivity is unreliable.

Where should it be mounted?

It is an indoor terminal with a stated operating range of 0°C to 45°C, so a shaded, covered position is essential. Direct sun on the display or rain reaching the unit will shorten its life. In practice we mount it inside the door or under solid cover at the entrance, never on an exposed outer wall.
